Our Story

history

Sorella Farms, AKA Schwenker Farms has a history dating back to the 1800’s, owned by the Schwenker family for 6 generations. Once an animal farm and more recently known for its vineyards and farmers market in the old wooden barn. What once was a stand alongside the road, the market was brought into the historic wooden barns. Schwenker’s Farm Market and Gift Barn was loved by the community for many years.

The owners, Paul and Cathy Schwenker raised their family in the farmhouse. John who is a St. Catharines Firefighter, Hayley who is a local Real Estate Developer, and Carly who is a local Registered Dental Hygienist. Their second oldest, Katelyn Schwenker passed at the age of 6 years old from Neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer. Her presence is still celebrated and felt on the farm. Her memory is carried on with the venue, which was named Sorella Farms meaning sister in her honour.

The property and all its facilities needed substantial restoration when the Schwenker Family and partner Jason Wilson decided to turn it into an event space for locals and out of town guests to enjoy. Through their vision, the Schwenker’s Farm became Sorella Farms.

The barn structures needed immediate attention as one had partially collapsed. Both barns have been restored from top to bottom while maintaining their historic design, wood facing, and charm.

The Ranch House on the property has been completely taken down to the bare bones and renovated with the modern amenities and design to become a beautiful vacation rental.
